Volunteer: Nashville Food Project - Donation Sorting

Details + RSVP Here!

Did you know... according to an article published by Higher Perspective, one of the best ways to make yourself feel happier is to help others. In fact, 100 hours per year (or two hours per week) is the optimal time we should each be dedicating to helping others in order to enrich our own lives.

What better way to help others than by volunteering? This is our second (attempt) at a volunteer event and this time we are checking out The Nashville Food Project!

ABOUT:
Over 40% of food in the U.S. goes to waste, while 1 in 8 Nashvillians experience food insecurity. Want to help The Nashville Food Project combat the myth that hunger is a scarcity issue and leverage food already in our community to meet the needs of our neighbors? Come be a part of our “Donation Sorting” sessions!
Each week, we receive generous bulk donations from incredible partners like Costco and Bells Bend Farms, helping us recover food that would otherwise go to waste. At our Donation Sorting sessions, volunteers help organize these bulk donations so they can be easily incorporated into our nutritious meals and snacks, which are shared with poverty-disrupting organizations across Nashville! In addition to sorting donations, volunteers will engage in food preservation activities to help us reduce waste and make best use of our ingredients. Join us to connect with new friends, sharpen your organization skills, learn fun preservation techniques, and support the work of community food insecurity simultaneously!

LOCATION:
5904 California Avenue
Nashville, TN, USA

What should volunteers know about the location?
Our TNFP headquarters hosts a ramp on the west side of the building as well as accessible, All Gender restrooms available for visitor use. Currently, all sessions are facilitated in English and volunteer activities are supported by our culinary staff team. When you arrive, please sign-in at the front and fill out a liability waiver if you are a first-time volunteer. At your scheduled start time, your volunteer facilitator will meet you in our Community Dining Room to introduce you to the space and get your work started! We ask that all volunteers arrive at their scheduled time and remain for the entirety of the selected shift.
